The Modak Story

Named after the sacred sweet offering to Lord Ganesha, Modak represents the essence of Indian spiritual and culinary traditions. Our restaurant brings together the purity of temple cuisine with the warmth of home-cooked meals.

Born in the cultural heart of Trivandrum, Kerala, we are on a mission to share the divine flavors of pure vegetarian Indian cuisine across the nation. Each dish is crafted with reverence, using time-honored recipes passed down through generations.

Our commitment to sattvic food principles ensures that every meal nourishes not just the body, but also the mind and soul. We use only the finest ingredients, prepared in the traditional way, without onion or garlic, staying true to temple cooking traditions.

Temple Traditions

According to our sacred tradition, Agni is the divine witness (Sākṣi) and the purifier of all actions. Before opening our shop, we offer Aarati to invoke Agni’s presence, seeking purity in thought (manas), word (vāchā), and action (karmā).

The sacred flame purifies our tools, surroundings, and space, removing negativity and inviting auspiciousness. The offering of karpuram (camphor) symbolizes the burning away of ego and impurities, leaving behind clarity, freshness, and joy.

With this prayer, we seek blessings so that the food we prepare, the service we offer, and the experience we give to our customers remain pure, sattvic, and filled with divine grace throughout the day.
